Converting a Tennis Court Into a Pickleball Court

Pickleball is a unique sport that borrows the components of tennis, table tennis, and badminton. Just like tennis, the game calls for agility, athletic ability, and coordination. What happens when you have a tennis court but want to convert it into a pickleball court to save on the costs of new construction? How many pickleball courts fit on a tennis court? Read on to find out.

Tennis Court vs. Pickleball Court Dimensions

A tennis court usually measures 78 feet long with 21 feet of service line, but the width varies based on the type of match to be played. While the ones for single matches measure 27 feet wide, the court for doubles stands at 36 feet wide. On the other hand, a pickleball court measures around 44 feet by 20 feet.

What’s the Number of Pickleball Courts That Fit on a Tennis Court?

In most cases, you can comfortably fit four pickleball courts on one tennis court. This only applies if the court is 60 feet wide and there is enough room available around it for the players. However, you can’t have a clear answer because the pickleball court capacity on the tennis court varies with the size of the particular tennis court and its layout. If the tennis court is smaller than 60 feet wide, then only three pickleball courts will fit. Also, if there is little room around the court, then the pickleball court size will have to be reduced.

What to Consider When Converting a Tennis Court Into a Pickleball Court

This conversion effectively reduces the cost involved because you use a court that already exists. This process means painting or drawing lines on the tennis court that will be the boundaries of the new court. The next step is to install the net, making sure that the center part is the same height as that of the tennis net.

After that, you will account for the court’s layout. Will you use the whole tennis court or only a part of it to make a small pickleball court? The best part about converting a court for a different sport is that you can save on space and resources. As long as the new court fits all the qualities of a typical pickleball court, it will still serve its purpose.
